Internship Training Opportunities

Family Psychological Center, P.A. in Harrison, Arkansas, has provided advanced training for doctoral interns and postdoctoral residents since 2005. Our doctoral internship program with the National Psychology Training Consortium (NPTC) is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Doctoral interns and postdoctoral residents continue to develop their expertise in conducting a variety of psychological assessments and providing research-based treatment to clients with a diverse range of presenting issues, including neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disabilities, specific learning disorders), depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma-related disorders, disruptive and impulse control disorders, substance-related disorders, personality disorders, and relational problems.

Interns and residents also are provided with training and supervision opportunities that refine their skills in establishing client rapport, conducting focused diagnostic interviews, gathering valid clinical observations, and administering and interpreting a range of cognitive, developmental, academic, emotional, and personality assessment instruments. Supervision includes at least two scheduled hours of individual supervision with primary supervisors and psychologists, Dr. Nichols and Dr. Brown. In addition, two more hours of weekly supervision are scheduled and may include co-therapy, individual supervision, observation of supervisors working directly with patients, group supervision, or journal discussions. Differential diagnosis and treatment planning are also emphasized in individual and group supervision sessions. Methods of training include weekly individual and group supervision, co-therapy, observation, and weekly lunch journal discussion groups. Private practice management is also an area of training available for interns and residents with interest in continuing their careers in private practice settings.
